  Does Cannabis medicine reduce problem drinking?

There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of anecdotal reports that cannabis helps patients who have a drinking problem. Some use the term "harm reduction" to describe how the utilization of cannabis has helped them to reduce or eliminate their frequency and amount of alcoholic beverages. Whether or not cannabis is truly a harm reduction strategy, is simply a nontoxic alternative to alcohol, or makes problem drinking worse remains an important question especially considering that the nation boasts some 20 million problem drinkers with billions of dollars in cost and grievous impact on health.
