Basic Overview

TENSHI NA KONAMAIKI ("A CHEEKY ANGEL") features Amatsuka Megumi
("Amatsuka" is written with the same kanji as "tenshi" or angel).
Originally a boy, nine-year-old Amatsuka Megumi was magically
transformed by a deceptive spirit into a girl, a future "woman among women,"
when he asked to be turned into a "man among men." Now, as a high school
student, he and his childhood friend Miki are the only ones who know of this
past—he has completely become a "she," including in all his old photos and
even his parents' memories. Megumi likes wearing girls' clothes and enjoys
looking beautiful, but still thinks and acts like a boy. She (he) now has
developed quite a collection of adoring and hopeful males, including
"super bad boy" Genzo. Things are quickly becoming confusing for Megumi ...

Part#12
Genzo, realizing his bad relations with other punks has put Megumi in danger,
is doing the manly thing and has gone to his enemies with a white flag and
a promise of nonresistance. He hopes that, by beating him up, they will expend
their enmity and leave those around him alone. Megumi, Miki, and two of Genzo's
rivals come upon Genzo getting beaten up by the punks. Even Genzo's rivals
admire his actions, and wind up jumping in and asking for mercy and forgiveness
on his behalf. When even they start getting beaten up, Genzo momentarily forgets
his nonresistance. A fracas ensues, and Megumi joins in. Afterward, she says she
likes those who act like true men.

Part#20
Megumi has run into Kobayashi, a handsome and strong young student who has distinct
ideas of femininity and responsibility. He berates Megumi for helping him in a fight
in which the opponent had a knife, since if she got hurt, it would be his responsibility.
Then, Megumi and Genzo find a tiny fighter-shaped doll and (after laughing at it and
mocking it) find out it's Kobayashi's, a keepsake of a presumably deceased friend.
Megumi somberly returns it to him, only to have him tell her it was a lie. Later,
Kobayashi is beaten up by a group of lowlifes who used a fake hostage to keep him from
fighting back. They take the tiny doll from him and, at the train station, discuss their
plan to throw it from a train. Megumi overhears them and decides to get it back.

Part#27
Megumi and Genzo have gone fishing, with Genzo failing to act as a knight in
shining armor as he watches Megumi fend off accidents and near-misses. But now
he's decided that this expedition counts as their first "date" (which Megumi is
not at all happy about). Kobayashi appears at just the right moment to fend off
another disaster and to destroy the notion that this is a "date." Soon, all
three are adrift in Tokyo Bay, on a raft-like piece of pier. Genzo suddenly
realizes that something strange is going on. Ever since they had argued with the
evil spirit that had originally turned Megumi into a girl, things were getting
more and more dangerous. Was Megumi really cursed by that spirit?

Part#33
Megumi, still apparently under a curse, is explaining why she trains in the martial
arts: she wants to be the strongest in the world, a dream she's had since she was a
little boy. Only Kobayashi(the handsome, intelligent, cool guy of the devoted admirers)
seems to sympathize. The others invite themselves over to Kobayashi's house, despite
his protests. It turns out that Kobayashi's house is a dojo—but not only that, a
treacherously dangerous place where Kobayashi is constantly being targeted, trained
and tested so that he may become a real samurai-style warrior. Everyone else mocks
this concept, but frighteningly enough, Megumi appears to be deeply impressed by this
idea.

Part#36
Megumi, is in Osaka, and has wound up getting involved in some criminal activities,
between a woman thief and what looks like gang activities in a warehouse area.
When some of the bad guys come across her and the thief, they are stopped by Fujiki,
whose moment of glory lasts only briefly until he's KO'd. Megumi defends him from
both attackers and the scorn of the thief, but she is "rescued" once more when another
of her "knights," Genzo, appears.

Part#42
After having successfully wrapped up an incident with would-be murderers and a
woman thief in need of help, Megumi and Miki need only deal with Megumi's lecherous
father, who also makes a point of telling Genzo and Fujiki how hopeless their pursuit
of her is. Megumi is unusually pensive, and agrees to go on separate dates with both
Genzo and Fujiki in thanks for their help. While Genzo and Fujiki get into a shouting
match, Miki checks with Megumi and discovers she is planning to go to Germany to
live with her mother all to avoid getting her friends into more danger. Miki threatens
to slap her for that kind of thinking, which Megumi tells her to do, but Genzo,
who has overheard the discussion, offers to do it instead...

Part#47
Back in Tokyo at her family's mansion, Megumi is once again greeted by Genzo's
insistence upon having a date, and she actually agrees to meet him. Meanwhile,
Fujiki has gotten into trouble on his way home, in the form of some punks who
want to beat him up. He finds Genzo, who is on his way to the date. Fujiki
winds up agreeing to deal with his problem on his own, and let Genzo go on to
meet Megumi. Yet, even though Genzo theoretically would and should sacrifice
anything and everything to meet Megumi on time, he winds up coming to Fujiki's
rescue and even lying about the time of the date so Fujiki wouldn't worry.
Megumi is waiting at the agreed-upon spot... And waiting and waiting!

Part#55
Fujiki, undergoing ostracism for being a perceived pervert, wonders how Yasuda
tolerates the label. He finds Yasuda reading the magic book that transformed
Megumi, but inadvertently also discovers that, without his glasses on, Yasuda
looks just like a girl. Yasuda takes that idea and runs with it. Locking up Fujiki
and Genzo and tricking Kobayashi, Yasuda goes off and tells Megumi he's been
transformed into a girl all for the sake of wanting to see Megumi as he's never
seen her before. He gets to watch her on a swing set for a while before Genzo
comes and wreaks revenge.

Part#63
Megumi is in a "competition" with rich Keiko to see who can best help a little
boy become a "real man." Keiko has just told him he's hopeless, and Megumi and
friends are now fighting over how best to strengthen the now depressed kid.
Megumi, however, is feeling awkward because she's not a guy and therefore not
qualified (in her view) to really teach manliness. One by one, Megumi's male
admirers try their skewed and/or twisted methods on the boy, ranging from
encouraging perversion with pride, to applying tremendous mental pressure to
become disciplined. At the end, Megumi tells the child that he is a kind boy, and
that kindness is something that requires strength(therefore the boy has strength).
The others seem to like this approach, but Genzo interrupts and says that a true
man should not turn to kindness like that.

Part#70
Even Megu's influence can't stop Miki from being willing to marry
the pre-arranged and unknown groom set up by her super-wealthy,
super-powerful family. To resist would bring great political difficulty to
Miki's family. Driven to a quiet desperation, Megu decides to kidnap Miki,
since the groom's family is apparently very conservative and would likely
withdraw the marriage agreement if Miki were to fail to show up. She
recruits her "club" into helping; one by one they agree to help,
no matter the consequences ... whether it be the cops or Miki's wrath.
