My S2 250:
Impressions After 5000km/3100mi

Good/Great:

There are a lot of good things to say about this scooter.  At the risk of sounding like a cheerleader, a good summary is that there is little this bike could have done better.
  • It's well built. As indicated at the top of this page, my odometer just turned 5000 km.  I ride in hot, coool, wet, and dry weather, and my commute includes some fairly bumpy stretches, yet nothing has broken or come loose since day one.  Note: on day one (literally), the adhesive on one of the round reflectors did fail, and it fell off.
  • Manufacturing details are well thought out and executed.  Wires and hoses are routed efficiently, they aren't jumbled and/or hanging out in plain view like I've seen on some bikes, body panels match up pretty nicely, the floor mat design and retention features show no signs of failing or mismatching, etc.
  • It's never stranded me, stalled, or died.  It's been a very reliable scooter.
  • Plenty of power.  I haven't done side by side comparisons with other 250cc bikes, but my S2 has no problems motoring me up the hills on my ride home from work.
  • Likes to run.  Tops out between 75-80mph (actual; 85+ indicated).
  • Rides smoothly, and is easy to control.  Steady at all speeds.  Feels refined.
  • The seat and seating position are comfortable.  There's room for taller riders, yet the seat height will accomodate shorter riders also.
  • I live up in the hills at about 1000 feet elevation, and my place of employment is down at about 100 feet.  I do a lot of hill climbing.  Average fuel economy has been 62mpg.

Could be better:

  • The instrument cluster is a little on the plain side.  I like that it's analog, but a clock and a tachometer would be nice.  (I read a news bit on the Scooter Infos site that indicates this has been upgraded recently.)  The big numbers on the speedometer are kph, which doesn't bother me a whole lot, but I would have liked the odometer to indicate miles.
  • The speedometer is not accurate.  50mph indicated is actually about 45mph.  This seems to be a common phenomenon among most scooter brands.
  • Unless the underseat storage compartment is full enough that something is pressing up slightly, I find that I need to lift on the seat with one hand while turning the key with the other to open it.  It's a two-handed operation.
  • The windscreen that the bike comes with doesn't provide much protection.  The aftermarket screen, on the other hand, addresses this rather nicely.
  • There's no storage up front for wallet, sunglasses, garage door remote, or other small items.
