Alan P. Scott - Memory

to my classmates

I went to Huntington East High School (HEHS) in Huntington, West Virginia, from 1979 to 1981. Then to West Virginia University (WVU) in Morgantown WV for three years. I moved back to Huntington in 1984, and finally graduated from Marshall University in 1988.

This academic career is not especially unusual, except perhaps for its length. But it makes me one of, oh, millions of people who're part of the target market for those websites that purport to put old classmates back in touch with each other, for "free." And I did, in fact, join one of them, which shall remain nameless.

I'm not a member anymore, though, because I found out after several years that the "free" membership doesn't actually allow you to get in touch with people. Anyone could leave comments for me, it seemed, but when I tried to read those comments, or even find out who'd left them, I got a message that said, in essence, "send us money and we'll tell you. Neener-neener."

So I quit - told 'em to erase my account. I think they did, though I can't be sure. And I apologize - I'm very sorry, but if you're one of the half-dozen or so old classmates who actually left comments for me on that website, I never got to read them. Hopefully you've used a search engine to find this page instead. I'd be happy to hear from you. My email address is at the bottom of this page - and you don't have to send me money to get a reply.
