Through the use of large format color portraits of the home within the home of a variety of pets, Nicole Jean Hill’s Home Turf explores how humans organize their relationships to the nonhuman and form a sense of kinship with other species. While the subjugation of the natural world often seems to have irreversibly isolated the human from the nonhuman, Hill’s wry images present hybrids of nature and culture and examine the ambiguous hierarchies between imposition and tenderness.
