Graphics lab

I have spent many hours exploring WWW sights, in particular sights put up by other artists and graphic designers. Many seem to approach the Net as if it were print. By that I mean, they are scanning and pasting pictures into Web documents as though they were laying out a newsletter or designing a brochure.

Graphics for the Internet is a rapidly emerging craft. Like photography, lithography or screenprinting, it has parameters and techniques which are unique to it alone. In an attempt to examine its intricacies, I am posting these experiments. Each item addresses one or more design criteria of Internet graphics:

  1. clarity of image,
  2. dependability of colors across platforms, i.e., Mac-IBM ,
  3. and length of download time, i.e., file size.

For images making tips, see:

  1. Linear Bill(2-bit GIF)
  2. Big Dog, (Small File)
  3. Bus stop(Under 20K)
  4. (CRLI) GIF vs Standard GIF
  5. GIF vs. JPEG
  6. Origami Bags
  7. Pyramids (Linear 4-bit Color)
  8. Kabuki #2
  9. On The Road to Color
  10. New Logo for Starbucks Coffee
  11. Posterized Hummingbird
  12. Queen of Hearts
  13. Siberian Tiger
  14. Space

Effects:

  1. Clientside Javascript (penetrating the page)
  2. Imageflip (OnMouseOver, OnMouseOut)
