Friends are encouraged to contribute to the scholarship fund in Mark's memory. If you wish to contribute, make your check payable to "Marcus Bowman Scholarship Fund" and mail it to the family at P.O. Box 1001, Vancouver, WA 98666. All contributions will be deposited in the perpetual scholarship account. We will list the contributors on this page. Vancouver School of Arts and Academics opened in 1997 in the remodeled Shumway Junior High School building. Mark was an alumnus of Shumway and performer as well. Mark was also very active in Drama at Hudson Bay High School. Each school year, in Mark's memory, the Marcus Bowman Drama Award will be given to a high school junior and to a high school senior. This award is intended to recognize a sincere interest in drama, not necessarily in on-stage performance but in any aspect of drama including set construction, costuming, lighting, sound control, etc.
On April 7, 1997, with the help of Loriann who currently lives near there, a tree was planted at Disneyland in Marcus' name. Mark had spent the summer of 1991 working in the Character Department there and would be very pleased to know there is a tree growing at Disneyland in his memory.
On April 15, 1997, Ben Wager planted an Mountain Ash tree at his parent's house in Salmon Creek, north of Vancouver. Although Ben didn't realize it at the time, his choice of Mountain Ash was appropriate. A Mountain Ash tree grew in the front yard of the house in which Mark grew up and the neighbors across the street also had a very large Mountain Ash in their yard. Each fall, when the migrating birds stopped to feast on the berries, it was quite a sight to see and very fascinating to a young child.
On Memorial Day weekend, 1997, Mark's Aunt Rosemary and her father planted a cherry tree in her front yard at Wapato, Washington. The family often gathered at Rosemary's house on Memorial day weekend for a family barbeque and picnic. There were two wild cherry trees growing in the backyard of the house where Mark grew up and he spent many hours climbing in those trees so the choice of cherry tree would have special meaning to Mark.
