What kind of building does Chateau Construction specialize in? · Residential custom homes and quality multi-family dwellings. · Price range: $500,000 and up · Styles: Whether in the city or on rural acreage, I appreciate most styles if applied well with consistency. Chateau Construction is proud to listen to its clients in order to build their homes according to their tastes and desired style. That being said, I really enjoy building traditional homes with striking exterior elevations and interiors enhanced with details and craftsmanship. · Chateau Construction is probably best known for the French Country, European, Craftsman, and Colonial architectural styles.
What is Chateau Construction’s mission statement? To build homes of distinction that are as exceptional as my clients - making their dream a reality.
What is the greatest challenge facing Chateau Construction? Among other things, I am very concerned about the availability of buildable land in the City of Corvallis and the significant political hurdles that stand in the way of those willing to develop. There is vacant land; however, there is very little land for sale and available for development. This short supply has created escalating prices and fewer options for families that would like to build a new home.
What do you charge to build a home or how much is this going to cost? This is a very normal question with a seemingly elusive answer. Typically, you will hear numbers around town like $100-$120 or even $170 per square foot for building a “nice” custom home.
The fact is, the price depends on many variables including: · Overall size of the house · Location and building site · Number of baths and kitchens · Interior and Exterior finish materials · Quantity, quality and type of flooring · Grade of appliances · Contractor profit and overhead · Etc., etc., etc.
I don’t say this to add to your frustration, but to explain why pricing seems so elusive. The good news is that I can remove most of the “guesswork” in our very first meeting. After a good discussion about YOUR dream, we will start to prioritize your expectations, discuss some tradeoffs and begin building a budget...TOGETHER.
Having an MBA and hi-tech business experience has given me an excellent understanding of numbers, financing options, and spreadsheets. Combined, these things have led to a fairly automated budgeting process that allows me to quickly give you the answer to “How much is this going to cost?”!
A couple things you can be sure of when working with Chateau Construction: · You won’t get a general answer to your specific question (i.e. “around $100 per square foot”) · You will get a specific answer: Your home, finished like…will cost $____(i.e. $450,000) · You will have flexibility and control to increase or reduce that cost based on your own decisions and tradeoffs. · At the end of the project you will have YOUR dream (not mine) at a fair price with accurate and documented building expenses.
What motivated you to start a new business in construction? I have always wanted to be a builder, but pursued a career in hi-tech because it seemed to be the ideal career when I finished high school at CHS in 1983. In August of 2000, my father was killed in a tragic car accident. This event reminded me that life is too short to not be doing what you love. Within months of my father’s death we sold our home (out-of-state), moved back to Corvallis, and started Chateau Construction. I love it and believe that my prior education and business experience have been the key to the successful launch of Chateau Construction.
Which members of your family work in the business and what do they do? My wife, Laurie, has great taste and style. She helps select home plans and is an excellent designer/client consultant. My oldest son, Brayden, has worked on the framing team and in the cabinet shop.
What are your leisure time pursuits? Family, church, camping, fishing, woodworking, electronics (audio, video, PCs), basketball, softball, and violin.
Would you name a few personal or company community activities? My greatest personal activity is striving to be a good husband and father to 4 wonderful children. Six years ago my wife, Laurie, and I co-founded the Willamette Valley Down Syndrome Association (WVDSA). My daughter, Megan (12), has Down syndrome and we felt there was a need to work together to improve the lives of those touched by Down syndrome. I have served as the president of the WVDSA. I also volunteer at my church, in scouting and as a mentor to college students at the Marriott School of Management at BYU. |
