When it became apparent that the Republic would be joining the Triumvirate of Yut the decision was made to design and field a dedicated exploratory vessel for the Galactic Exploration Command. The Venture was partially based on the Cohort-II, but it had some design specifications that required a hull redesign. It would have a warp drive, but also a hyperdrive for ultra-long distance travel. The decision was also made to add a second sensor array. This would make system surveys much more accurate by providing two sets of data, which could be cross checked with each other.
