Asiko Drums, Talking Drums, & More African Drums:

Tying the Gourd Resonators On
Krin Drums from Guinea, Asiko drums from Ghana, and Bougarabou drums from Ivory Coast are only a small sampling of the melodic drums we import from Africa. Like the rest of our drums, we work directly with African carvers to bring you the finest drums on the market. NEW! We also have added the Meinl Talking drum...and while it isn't hand-carved, it is one of the best sounding and repairable talking drums we've seen in a while.

Asiko Drum from West Africa
Asiko Drum

Asiko Drums:

  • Made in Ghana from Mahogany, these square drums are quite popular in Africa, but rarely seen outside.
  • The Asiko drum accompanies the djembe and is also known as a Tamale or Kolomashie drum.
  • Uses an internal tuning system using wooden wedges that push an inner frame against the goatskin head.
  • Two sizes available: Small (14" X 14") and Large (15" X 20").
SIZE: PRICE: ORDER:
Small: 14" diameter and 14" length $149.00

Large: 15" diameter and 20" length $189.00

In this YouTube clip we shot in Senegal, you can occasionally make out the square asiko drums accompanying the djembe and dununs at a wrestling match in Dakar.

Krin Drum from Guinea
Krin Drum from Guinea

Krin Drums From Guinea:

  • These drums from Guinea are made from the same rare melodic hardwood, called Hare, that is used to make professional Balaphones and master Djembes.
  • Lots of different sounds depending on where on the drum you hit.
  • Louder and brighter than Nigerian log drums.
  • Our Krin Drums are approximately 8" in width and 18" in length.
SIZE: PRICE: ORDER:
8" diameter and 18" length $150.00
Add a pair of "Basic" Drum Sticks for only $8.00 more.

Bougarabou drums from Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast BOUGARABOUS:

  • These are beautiful "African congas".
  • Made from Iroko Wood like our djembes
  • We use custom-milled, double-braided, low-stretch core rope engineered specifically for our drums.
  • Hand-selected calf skin heads
  • These drums add a lot of mid-range tone.
