Deschutes River Guides
Fishing Report

7/17/2000 - Grant fished Eric Linde (Fisherman's Marine and Outdoor) and Mike Codino (Fishing and Hunting News) for their annual trip on the river.  Fishing was good with a total of 12 fish hooked and 8 landed (5 keepers, 3 natives).  Grant said that the fish were beautiful with a couple of the fish pushing 12 pounds.  Other reports from the river are good and lets hopefully look forward to a super season for summer steelhead.

Our August days are almost full and September is also filling fast.  With a strong steelhead run look for some days in October when many of the guides and people have left and the fishing is still good.

7/8/2000 - Grant fished the first group of the season for steelhead.  The group did fair hooking four fish and landing a nice native steelhead.  The conditions were a little tough with the big W (wind but we try to discourage using that W word) affecting the fishing.

Our Deschutes Season will start getting busy here next week, look for updated reports coming more frequently.

6/24/2000 - Pete fished a group of trout fisherman on the lowest 15 miles of the Deschutes.  Fishing was good with the group landing about 12 trout and an equal or better amount hooked and lost.  Most of the fishing was on nymphs.  This section of the Deschutes does not have the trout population of the Warm Springs to Maupin Area, but we were the only people fishing trout on the river that day.  With our choice of holes we were able to find some decently fishing in a relaxed setting.  This would be a good section to bring larger groups trout fishing.  The access is by jet sled and the fishing will make for a nice casual day on the river.

 5/31/00 and 6/1/00

Pete and Grant assisted Pro Guides Kevin Marshall and Jim Wilson with a 4 driftboat trip on the South Santiam.  Salmon fishing the first day was a little tough with only 4 spring chinook and 1 steelhead landed for the eight clients.  The second day was a little better with the addition of some steelhead fishing.  Grant and Pete had their 4 clients into 8 steelhead, landing 6 of them.  Grant also put a nice spring chinook in the boat.  Large group trips like these are fun.  Even though it is two fisherman per boat we did a lot of fishing next to each other to share the experience.

This group did book a trip on the Deschutes for two boats and eight clients.  If you have large groups we at Deschutes River Guides can accommodate your group on the river.
