Information About the Gardens

View of the Flatiron gardenThe Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens are really an arboretum with many flowers, shrubs, and exotic trees in addition to the lilacs, so there is much to see during any time of year.

The front of the house has a typical 19th Century Victorian-era garden that contains many rare and unusual trees and shrubs. The area known as the “Flatiron Garden” (see photo) is bordered by two paths and derives its name from Mrs. Klager’s remark that, “This is the closest I ever want to come to ironing” while she was creating it. Mostof the plants are labeled, but we have gardeners available to help answer questions.

The potting shed and 3½ acres of lilacs are located behind the house. Lilac plants are sold on the grounds during the annual Lilac Festival to ensure the continuation of the Lilac Gardens, which is a nonprofit organization.
