PianoDisc/QuietTime Basic Information

PianoDisc Basic Information

So many people buy a piano for the air of sophistication that it brings to the home. It sits for years without being played by hardly anyone, and it darn sure never gets tuned. Then there are those folks that wouldn't have a piano in the home because they don't play a note. PianoDisc brings a silent piano to life. This is a retrofitable unit that uses computer disks as well as compact discs to make a piano play itself much like the old player pianos that were so popular in the 1920's. The current model is quite capable of doing much more than just playback, and is a serious source of entertainment for the home as well as for hotels, restaurants and other places. There are other player units out there, but I feel the PianoDisc is not only the most performance for the dollar, it is also the best and most flexible retrofitable playback unit available today. I've been installing these for a few years now, and have a pretty good understanding of most of it's features. Should you have any questions about player pianos of any kind, feel free to email me. I really enjoy the automatic musical instrument business.

QuietTime Basic Information

A recent addition to the piano world is the QuietTime system made by the same folks that make PianoDisc, MSR, Music System Research out of Sacramento, Ca. This is a retrofit kit that can go in virtually any piano. Moving a lever under the keyboard stops the hammers from hitting the strings without changing the feel of the keys. You can now play the piano listening with headphones and selecting your favorite "voice" or sound from a selection of 128 GM voices. Sensors under the keys detect which note you're playing as well as the velocity you played it at. You can split the keyboard at the point you choose, and have a voice in the right hand different from the voice in the left hand. All this can be done while someone is watching TV in the same room as the person playing the piano, without interfering with each other. This system also gives some people the "gismo" incentive to play the piano. It gives churches the option to have an organ installed in their piano for much less money than a whole new organ. The QuietTime is in no way permanently installed. It can be removed at anytime with full functionality of the piano restored. Feel free to email me about your questions.
