Alton Baker always has sparrow flocks, but I haven't found a reliable
spot
for them this year. I've seen Lincoln's, White-crowned, Golden-crowned,
and one White-throated recently. Here's my sparrow list for the
area:
Chipping Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow
Fox Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Lincoln's Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Directions: In Springfield, get on West D Street, and go west.
At a stop
sign at Aspen, turn left. There's a little parking area right
next to the
river there. Follow the trail along the river, until you come
out of the
woods, and go under the I-5 bridge. There's a big old dump that
is now a
field. There can be sparrow flocks anywhere out in the field.
At the end
of the field are two radio towers and a pond. Right there is
where I had a
zono flock of about 40 birds with the White-throated Sparrow on November
1,
2000.
