| I received a phone call from David Bailey
at around 14:10 reporting a Bristle-thighed Curlew on Clatsop Beach about
1 mile north of the Sunset Beach access. My daughter, Michelle, and
I re-located the bird at about 14:50 as it worked the wet beach.
Dave Bailey arrived about 10 minutes later and we watched the bird for about 30 minutes. It is not nearly as tame as birds encountered during the 1998 fallout. It flushed everytime a car went by and would not allow approaches by vehicle or on foot closer than maybe 30 meters. It was very talkative though and we heard the diagnostic "wolf whistle" multiple times. |
Weather Satellite for May 22, note large cyclone. This is very
similar to the system
that appeared off the coast during the 1998 fallout.
