Aqua Pod.
A great little boat.
The prior page is the index to this site.
We have owned this Aqua Pod for about a year now. We had orignally been introduced to the boat by my neighbor across the street who had one. My daughter, Staci, and I have used his boat off and on for a couple of years. He knew of this one for sale, so we bought it.
The boat was in terrible shape. It looked like someone had been cutting wood on it. The gunwhales had saw cuts through them and there were four 1 1/2 inch holes in it from who know's what. In addition, the bottom had been walked in to the extent that the fiberglass was very flexible.
I cut some 1/8th by 1 1/2 inch strips and epoxied them into the bottom of the boat, fixed the saw cuts with epoxy and glass cloth, and generally filled all of the holes, scrapes, and dings. Then I painted it.
By the time I was done I had about $100 and 10 hours in the boat. Then I splurged and bought a wood/epoxy asymmetrical double bladed paddle for Staci for Christmas.
We have been in Vancouver Lake, Salmon Creek, and Silver Lake in this boat. It is a flatwater boat. It has no freeboard, and is not designed for swift or rough water. We have taken it through some riffles on a creek, and we have had it out on Vancouver Lake in waves of 4 to 6 inches, but these represent the maximum capability of the boat. With waves that high, some slop over into the boat. One time we went out in these conditions, and the water was cold. I was in the stern. The first big wave we hit splashed up over the boat and sloshed into Staci's lap. Boy was she pissed. But after struggling with deciding to be mad or to cry, she relaxed and had a good time. We both did, but she got soaked.
The most fun we have had is using the boat in the willows when the lake is real high. We paddle some, but mostly pull ourselves through the brush. The leaves and bugs drop off onto you and the boat, and it makes for a pretty entertaining afternoon.
Here is a picture of Staci in the boat.
And another two pictures of the boat.
