Text Box:                                 Flowering Plants

*African Violets (Std. Saintpaulia ionatha picture To grow a violet you need ample humidity, temperatures that don't fluctuate (65-80F), and only water them when the soil dries. Too much water in the root area makes them rot.  If you can provide these conditions they will flower with exceptional beauty. We also have miniatures available. Please allow some extra time for us to locate these plants as our greenhouse will not support the growing of these as we use gas heat.  If you do in your home your might want to consider using Cape Primroses instead.

*Cape Primrose-Streptocarpus (Streptocarpus hybridus) (picture)- These plants can take more extremes in temperatures than violets and are less prone to rot.  What they do have is gorgeous blooms held high above the bright green foliage.

*Cape Primrose-Streptocarpella (Streptocarpus streptocarpella 'Blue Angle' & 'Good Hope' )(picture)- These lovely delicate flowers are held singly on plants that tend to cascade.  They look great in baskets!

*Cyclamen (C. persicum)-If you have a cool house 55-65F) and this may be your plant.  Blooms twice if good conditions are met.

*Gloxina 'Double Brocade' & 'Early Giant'
(Sinningia spp.) - These are the darlings of the flowering plants. Both are quite large and they both require moist conditions and moderate light.

*Purple Bellvine(Rhodochiton)- (in middle of picture)
Lovely heart shaped green leaves with pink margins and this vine will reward you with glorious lavender and mauve flowers.  Likes moderate light and water and we grow them in several ways. Please inquire as they have limited availability in summer only.

*Shamrock -Green or Purple (Oxalis spp.)- A wee bit of Ireland from this lassie.  We have the traditional green with white flowers and the purple with pink flowers.  The purple variety is perennial in our zone 6 area.

*White Lace Flower ( Episcia dianthiflora) (aka-Alsobia dianthiflora) (picture)- These special plants which are very hard to find grow much like an African violet.  However, their blooms look a little like a petunia with whiskers!  These really look special in hanging baskets!
