"A"-Pillar Edge Rebuild & Fender Edge Patches

w51_01

Red dotted line and arrow indicate where a missing part of the edge should be. The metal above the dotted line is also very rough. A new edge piece has been fabricated and will replace the missing area and the rough metal above it. (next photo)

w51_02

New fabricated section of the edge, welded in place and metal finished. (red arrows) This takes care of the missing area and the rough stuff that was above it.

w51_03

Same condition on the left side. The arrow above showing chunks missing out of the edge flange where someone drilled out the spot welds to replace a section of the cowl side. This will all get replaced with the new section below.

This is the fabricated metal section that gets welded in. (next photo)

Edge replaced with new edge piece. The area between the two red arrows is what got replaced on this side.

w51_06

This is the bolt flange on the front portion of the LH front fender. It has some severe rust away that has eaten through both the outer sheet metal and the inner reinforcement sheet metal. Both inner and outer metal will need replacing in this area. We start with the outer piece first fabricating a new section to exactly match the flange where it is missing.

w51_07

With the new piece is matched up and temporarily fastened. A scribe line is made. Then the rusted area is cut away and the new section welded in place.

w51_08

With the piece welded and welds metal finished, the next step will be to replace the missing section of the reinforcement underneath.

w51_09

This is the new reinforcement. It was fabricated to the exact dimensions of the original part, so it will fit perfectly in place behind the fender mounting flange.

w51_10

With the reinforcement fit and welded. This part of the LH fender repair is now complete.
