Czar and Natasha came to Wild Ones Sanctuary at 3 years of age. Nobody guessed Czar was a young cat. He moved very little and limped badly when he did. Sometimes he would lose his balance and fall over when he tried to walk. His ribs and spine were easily visible through the sparse fur on his body and his tail was as big around as my little finger. There were big hollows in his cheeks and his eyes had no life in them. Natasha was in similar condition, but being a smaller cat she fared better on the apparently meager portions they were receiving while their caretaker was suffering the end stages of cancer. After her death, her husband brought the cats to me and conveyed his wife's wish that the cats come to Wild Ones Sanctuary when she was gone.

Czar and I bonded instantly and over the following months his physical condition improved greatly. He began to play hide and seek with his sister, a sparkle came into his eyes, and as his ravenous appetite subsided he began throwing his turkey drums into the air, stalking them, and pouncing on them before finally settling down to eat. Czar has a kind and gentle personality that makes him a pure joy to be around. The smallest things make him happy and his big deep purr and twinkling eyes are all the thanks I could ever ask for.
Natasha was called 'Nasty' before she came to Wild Ones. Its my understanding that the name was well earned. It took a little longer to reach an understanding with Natasha, especially about biting, but she is now an affectionate well- behaved cat who loves to have her tail pulled and her belly rubbed.

Cassandra and Spirit are the 'Welcome Wagon' at Wild Ones Sanctuary. They have grown up around all the neighborhood noise and activity, so they are more accustomed to people than many of the other cats.
Visitors are a source of amusement for them, and Cassandra often takes the opportunity to put on one of her performances to delight and dazzle her spectators with her amazing acts of agility. She is such a ham! Spirit usually hides behind 'mom' until he feels comfortable enough to come out and greet you with an extended paw. |
